We chose the place for its proximity to another. She saw the signs, and she knew.
She walked in on her own two feet anyways. Her rights and dignity intact, and her boundaries exercised. She held her head high and used another door to enter. She spoke her truth and spit her fire and kicked us out, then brought us back in on her terms.
In these quiet moments after desperation, I have never in my life been more proud of her or us.
You built this, brilliant hellfire woman. You built us from the ground up. You are strength and you are fury and you are love and vulnerability. We're here. Thank you.
