The post name has a double meaning - I've been missing from here for a while because my family has been visiting, and now I am missing them because they're gone. We had a wonderful week, and Erica's birthday was happily celebrated on Friday with a delicious cake my mom worked on for two days. Vanilla raspberry, it was divine.

My family visiting is always a whirlwind. Never long enough, but always a bit of a relief to have my house back when they've left, as well. It's a little too small for six adults and a baby. Plus, our routines are super thrown off - I haven't worked on my book in a week and I'm not really meeting daily goals very well, but I picked some of that back up today with skincare, exercise, and language. We'll see how it continues.

Routines aside, I'm really grateful they came to see my girl. We made some good memories. I miss them terribly already and I wish we could see each other more often and more casually. Infrequent week long trips are a lot of pressure. Luckily my mom plans to come out for my birthday in a couple weeks too, so that should be nice.

Today was tough but good. Went to visit the in-laws. Kurt is still not very responsive or present. No new developments, though, which is good. Today is the last day of jewish passover so they made her a birthday cake but it had to be passover kosher. It was a little funky looking and decorated with desserts they've had through the week, but it was tasty and the thought was precious. I really appreciate the work Ken and Jane put into it, and Kurt sang happy birthday to Erica in the loudest voice I've heard him use in weeks.

Also we are at this point very certain that Erica says hi when she waves. It's more like "haaaaaaaaaaa" but she's doing it consistently. So I guess that's her first real word? I dunno if it counts if she doesn't have a sense of what it means. She could, though. She has already been using the ASL sign for milk consistently, but this is her first spoken word besides mama and dada. Very exciting to see her grow! Whether it counts as a first word or not, lol.
